James Clifford Smisson

James Clifford Smisson, 87, died Thursday, August 9, 2012. Services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 209 South Miller Street in Fort Valley with Rev.Daniel Stubbs officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Rooks Funeral Home, 213 West Church Street in Fort Valley. Born in Fort Valley to the late Benjamin Burton Smisson and Mary Rebecca Webb Smisson, Mr.Smisson retired from Robins Air Force Base after 38 years, served in the Army during World War II with an engineering unit in the Asiac-Pacific Theater of Operations, and was a member of VFW Post #6126. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Valley and the Frank Withoft Sunday School Class. In his opinion, a good day was spent fishing on a pier in Carrabelle or on the beach at Saint George Island. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Zelma Gentry Smisson of Fort Valley, their children, Randy and Norma Smisson of Cochran and Debra and Ray Armstrong of Perry, grandchildren, Amanda and Jeremy Chandler, Ben Smisson, Stephanie and Jonathan Horton, Rayven Armstrong, Raymond Armstrong and Melissa Armstrong, greatgrandchildren, Allison Horton, Cassidy Jane Horton, Alanie Jewell Chandler, Janie Makay Hokanson, Devon James Hokanson, Dylan Ray Armstrong and Shelby Taylor Armstrong, and a sister, Anne Rigdon of Fort Valley. He is preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
